Overview
Lot 1 Secondary Youth Challenge is an Ofsted registered outstanding alternative educational provision for Key Stage 3 & 4 pupils aged 11 - 16 years which is part of The Bolton Impact Trust. We are based in the Smithills area of Bolton which is easily accessible from Bolton Town Centre. We provide medium to longer-term support for students who have been ‘Permanently Excluded’ and shorter-term support for those designated as Pupil's At Risk of Exclusion. For KS3 pupils, we want them to be able to successfully reintegrate into the mainstream curriculum. English, maths and PSHE are taught explicitly. Humanities and science are taught together which include the core learning from history, geography and science and is taught through a thematically linked approach. We use sport as an opportunity to teach resilience, teamwork, problem solving and use a variety of sporting venues to practice social skills and enhance cultural capital. At KS4 we want our students to leave us as functionally literate and numerate young adults capable of independence and personal success in whatever avenue they choose, consequently, we offer a functional skills qualification in English and maths.
