How we source and update data
AP Directory brings together information about Alternative Provision organisations across the UK. Listings describe real organisations drawn from documented sources. Services change, so always confirm details directly with a provider before commissioning.
Where information comes from
- Official establishment registers (for example GIAS in England) and regulator datasets such as Ofsted where applicable
- Local authority AP directories, frameworks and local offer materials
- Provider websites and published materials, used carefully for offer detail
- Procurement notices and other public commissioning evidence where relevant
- Provider-submitted claims and corrections, after review
Identity versus offer
An official source may establish that an organisation exists without proving exactly what it currently offers to learners. We therefore distinguish identity (name, location, identifiers) from offer (needs supported, subjects, qualifications, delivery, referral and funding). Gaps on a profile mean information is unknown or not yet evidenced — not that a provider cannot help.
What verification means
Verification and “provider confirmed” status mean we know where information came from and/or the provider recently confirmed it. They do not mean Ofsted approval, government endorsement, safeguarding clearance, or suitability for a particular learner.
How search and matching work
Organic ranking reflects how well a listing matches the filters and learner requirements you enter — including needs, delivery, subjects, qualifications, distance, freshness and profile completeness. Paid or featured placements, when shown, are labelled separately and never change organic score or verification badges.
Corrections and claims
Providers can request to claim a listing or submit corrections. Submissions are reviewed before they change the public catalogue. Anyone can also contact us about inaccurate data.
Your responsibilities
Schools, local authorities and families remain responsible for their own due diligence before commissioning or using any provision. Treat directory information as a starting point for research, not a placement decision.
