Guided search
Not sure which filters to use? Answer a few short questions and we’ll open the directory search with the right filters set. You can change everything afterwards, or go straight to the full search.
Nothing you choose here is saved or sent anywhere until you press search, which opens the normal directory search with these filters. Please don’t type a child’s name or personal details.
How the guided search works
Each answer maps to a filter on the main search. Location and delivery format exclude listings that don’t match; age, support needs, subjects and qualifications put listings that mention them first. The directory records what providers and public sources say — it doesn’t verify accreditation or quality, and inclusion is not an endorsement. See our methodology.
Preparing to talk to a provider or school? Use the referral conversation checklist and keep a shortlist of listings to compare.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the guided search tell me which provider is right for my child?
- No. It narrows and orders directory listings using the categories providers list. Whether a provision suits a child is a judgement for the family, school and local authority after speaking to the provider.
- Why do some listings appear that don't mention the needs I chose?
- Needs, age, subjects and qualifications move matching listings to the top rather than hiding the rest, because many listings don't yet publish that detail. Location and delivery format do exclude listings.
- Is anything I enter stored?
- Your answers stay in the page until you press search. The search then opens a normal results page with the filters in its web address. Location text is removed from analytics. Please don't enter a child's name or personal details.
